About this tool

Merging PDFs usually means uploading contracts, statements, or medical records to someone else's server and hoping they delete them. This merger works differently: your files are read, combined, and rebuilt entirely inside your browser tab using a local processing worker. Nothing is transmitted — you can even load the page, disconnect from the internet, and still merge.

Add as many PDFs as you need (up to 200 MB each), then drag individual pages into the right order and watch the combined preview update in real time. The preview labels every page with its source file, so there are no surprises in the download. Password-protected inputs are supported too — supply the password and the tool decrypts that file in memory before merging.

How to merge step by step

  1. 1

    Add your PDF files

Drop one or more PDFs onto the upload area or click Choose PDFs. Every page is included automatically and appears in the page-order list.

  2. 2

    Set the order

Select pages for group actions, then drag them or use the arrow buttons to arrange the exact output order. You can also remove pages you do not need.

  3. 3

    Handle protected files

If a file is password-protected, an owner-password field appears under it. The password is used in memory only, to decrypt that file for merging.

  4. 4

    Merge and download

Click Merge PDFs. A background worker combines every page, verifies the result, and starts the download automatically.

  5. 5

    Check the output

Open the merged file once in your PDF viewer to confirm page order before sharing or submitting it.

When to use it

  • Combining a signed form with its supporting documents into one attachment
  • Assembling monthly invoices or receipts into a single file for bookkeeping
  • Joining chapters, appendices, or exhibits into one submission-ready document
  • Bundling scanned pages that arrived as separate PDFs from a phone scanner

Tips

  • Select several pages before dragging to move them together while preserving their relative order.
  • Use the combined preview's colored file labels to spot a misordered file before downloading.
  • Merging first, then running Page Numbers, gives you continuous numbering across all documents.

Good to know

  • Bookmark outlines and file attachments from source PDFs are not carried into the merged file.
  • The merged output is unencrypted — re-apply protection with the Protect tool if needed.

Merge questions, answered

Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?

There is no fixed file-count limit. Each individual file can be up to 200 MB; the practical ceiling is your device's memory, since all processing happens locally in your browser. Dozens of typical documents merge without issues.

Will merging change the quality of my pages?

No. Pages are copied losslessly into the new document — text stays selectable, images keep their original resolution, and vector graphics remain vectors. Nothing is re-rendered or recompressed.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Yes, if you have the password. Enter it in the field that appears under the protected file; the tool decrypts that file in memory, merges it, and produces an unencrypted combined document. To re-protect the result, run it through the Protect PDF tool afterwards.

Do bookmarks and links survive the merge?

Internal page content — text, images, form appearance — is preserved exactly. Document-level extras like bookmark outlines are not carried over, which matches how most browser-based mergers behave. Links that point within the same page keep working.

Can I reorder individual pages, not whole files?

Yes. Every uploaded page appears in the combined preview and page-order list. Drag individual pages, move selected pages as a group, use the arrow controls, or remove pages before merging.

Privacy note: like every Novus PDF Studio tool, mergeruns entirely in your browser. Files, passwords, and settings stay in this tab's memory and are discarded when you close it — there is no upload, no queue, and no server-side copy. Read more on the privacy page.
