About this tool

Double-sided scans are notorious for coming out with every second page upside down, and single sheets fed sideways produce landscape pages in a portrait document. The rotate tool fixes both in seconds: choose a direction, choose which pages it applies to, and export.

The selection modes cover real scanning problems. All fixes a document scanned entirely sideways; Even fixes the classic every-other-page-flipped duplex scan; Custom takes typed ranges; and Selected lets you click exactly the pages that need fixing in the preview grid. Rotation is metadata-level, so it's lossless and instant even on large files.

How to rotate step by step

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF

Drop the file or click Choose PDF to load the page grid.

  2. 2

    Choose the target pages

Pick All, Odd, Even, Custom (typed ranges like 1-3,5), or Selected — then click pages in the grid to mark them.

  3. 3

    Pick the direction

Left 90°, Right 90°, or Turn 180° for upside-down pages.

  4. 4

    Rotate and download

Click Rotate PDF. The adjusted document downloads with all other content untouched.

When to use it

  • Duplex scans where the back of every sheet is upside down (choose Even + 180°)
  • A whole document scanned in landscape (choose All + 90°)
  • One or two sideways pages in an otherwise correct file (choose Selected)
  • Mixed-orientation exhibits that need to read consistently before submission

Tips

  • Use Selected mode with the preview grid when only a handful of pages are wrong — click them, rotate, done.
  • Odd/Even use printed page numbers (1-based), matching what your viewer shows.
  • 180° twice returns pages to the original orientation — nothing is ever destroyed.

Good to know

  • Rotation is in fixed 90° increments; deskewing slightly crooked scans isn't supported.
  • Output is unencrypted; re-protect confidential documents afterwards.

Rotate questions, answered

Is rotation lossless?

Yes. The tool changes each page's rotation flag rather than re-rendering content, so text stays selectable, images keep full resolution, and file size barely changes.

How do I fix a duplex scan where every second page is upside down?

Choose the Even selection mode and Turn 180°. That flips only the even-numbered pages — the classic fix for double-sided scanning with a single-pass feeder.

What if different pages need different rotations?

Run the tool twice (each pass targets one direction), or use the Organize PDF tool, where every page has its own rotate button and you can mix directions freely in one export.

Do form fields and annotations rotate with the page?

Page content rotates as a whole, and PDF viewers display embedded form widgets according to the page rotation. Always open the output once to confirm everything reads correctly before submitting.

Does this work on password-protected files?

Yes, with the document password: enter it in the field under the file and the rotation is applied to an in-memory decrypted copy. Re-protect the output with the Protect tool if needed.

Privacy note: like every Novus PDF Studio tool, rotateruns entirely in your browser. Files, passwords, and settings stay in this tab's memory and are discarded when you close it — there is no upload, no queue, and no server-side copy. Read more on the privacy page.
