About this tool
Sometimes you only need three pages out of a forty-page document — the signed agreement without the boilerplate, one statement out of a year-end bundle, or a single chapter to share. This splitter extracts exactly the pages you choose and nothing else, working entirely inside your browser so the full document never leaves your device.
You can select pages two ways, and they stay in sync: type ranges like 1-3,5,8-10 in the options panel, or simply click pages on and off in the visual preview grid. Choose whether the result downloads as one combined PDF of the selected pages or as separate PDFs — one per range — bundled into a ZIP.
How to split step by step
- 1
Upload the PDF
Drop the file or click Choose PDF. Every page appears in the preview grid, all selected by default.
- 2
Pick your pages
Click pages in the grid to include or exclude them, or type ranges such as 1-3,5 in the Pages field. The two selection methods mirror each other instantly.
- 3
Choose the output shape
One extracted PDF combines all chosen pages into a single file. Separate PDFs in ZIP creates one PDF per range — 1-3,5 produces two files.
- 4
Split and download
Click Split PDF. The extraction runs in a local worker and the download starts as soon as the output is verified.
When to use it
- Sending only the signature page of a long agreement
- Extracting one month from a combined bank or card statement
- Separating a scanned batch into individual documents
- Pulling selected exhibits out of a court or benefits filing
Tips
- The page grid caps its preview at 60 pages for speed — the range box still addresses every page in large documents.
- Extract with ranges in the order you type them: 5,1-2 outputs page five first.
- Combine with Merge afterwards to build a custom document from several sources.
Good to know
- Splitting is page-based — it can't divide content within a single page.
- Extracted output is unencrypted; re-protect it if the source was confidential.
Split questions, answered
What do the range formats mean?
Use commas to separate entries and hyphens for spans: 1-3,5,8-10 selects pages one through three, page five, and pages eight through ten. Page numbers are 1-based, exactly as your PDF viewer shows them.
When should I choose the ZIP output?
Choose ZIP when each range should become its own file — for example splitting a 12-month statement into twelve one-month PDFs. Each range in your input becomes one PDF inside the ZIP, named after the page span it contains.
Does splitting reduce quality or break text selection?
No. Selected pages are copied losslessly into the new file. Text remains selectable and searchable, and images keep their original resolution.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Yes — enter the document's password in the field that appears under the file. It is used only in memory to decrypt before extraction. The extracted output is unencrypted; run it through Protect PDF if it needs a password again.
Can I delete pages instead of extracting them?
Select every page except the ones you want gone — clicking pages off in the grid makes this quick. Alternatively, the Organize PDF tool has an explicit per-page delete button and lets you reorder at the same time.
Privacy note: like every Novus PDF Studio tool, splitruns entirely in your browser. Files, passwords, and settings stay in this tab's memory and are discarded when you close it — there is no upload, no queue, and no server-side copy. Read more on the privacy page.
