Put Together a Rental Application Packet
Proof of income, ID, references and a filled form, combined into one ordered PDF that a letting agent will accept the first time.

The agent replies within the hour. Send the completed form, proof of income, photo ID and a reference, and the flat goes to the first complete application. What you have is a form in your downloads folder, two payslips from a bank portal, a photograph of your passport on your phone, and a letter your previous landlord sent as an attachment.
Four items, four formats, one afternoon. The version that gets read is a single PDF in the order the agent listed, named after you. Getting there is a sequence, and the sequence matters more than any tool in it.
Everything becomes a PDF before anything is combined
Merging takes PDFs, so the photographs have to become pages first. Images to PDF does that: pick A4 or Letter rather than Auto so the passport page matches the sheets around it, and leave the fit on Contain, which keeps every pixel. Cover fills the sheet instead, and it will happily slice the corner off a document number.
Bank statements are the usual holdup. Portals often issue them password protected, and a protected file cannot be merged, organised or edited. Unlock PDF removes that protection using the password the bank already gave you, and it has to happen first.
The order that does not need redoing

Straighten the scans
Run Rotate PDF on anything sideways. Crooked pages make every later preview harder to judge, and a signature placed on a rotated page lands at an angle.

Combine in the agent's order
Add the sources to Merge PDF in the order the agent listed them, not the order they arrived in your inbox.

Fix the sequence
Open the result in Organize PDF to delete the blank back page of a scan, drop a duplicate payslip, or move the reference behind the income evidence it supports.

Fill and sign
In the editor, the automatic field scan reads form widgets, drawn boxes and underlines, and nearby text labels. It is a rule based detector, so expect to move a box and delete a suggestion or two.

Number the pages
Only once nothing else will move, use Page Numbers. Choose a position in a quiet margin so the numbers never sit on top of the form's own.

Read it the way the agent will
Open the downloaded file from the first page to the last, at normal zoom, and check the count against the agent's list.
Where these packets actually fail
- Six attachments instead of one document, so the agent has to assemble your application themselves.
- A passport photographed at an angle on a dark table. Retake it flat, in daylight, before it becomes a page.
- Page numbers added before a missing payslip turns up, which means numbering the whole thing again.
- White-out dragged over an old address. The erase tool covers by default and the text is still in the file; its remove mode genuinely deletes it by rasterising that page, at the cost of the page's text layer, links and form fields.
- A password on the final packet that the agent's system cannot open. Ask before you protect anything.
The short version
- Unlock protected statements first, because nothing else works on them.
- Convert photographs to pages with Contain fitting, not Cover.
- Rotate, merge, organize, fill and sign, then number, in that order.
- Number only when the page sequence has stopped changing.
- Check whether the recipient accepts an encrypted PDF before you make one.
